Ayurveda for Hair Growth

If you are wise, you would know that instead of dishing so much money on a luxury hair piece you can achieve healthier, thicker hair through a proper diet and natural remedies. Here are 4 Indian Ayervedic remedies to grow a prized mane of your own. 


Containing follicle strengthening fatty acids, amila is the most favored remedy for hair loss prevention. Amla ia a natural immunity booster and gives the hair strength and luster. It contains high iron levels that improve blood circulation around the scalp. This  promotes hair growth. 

Amla Ayerveda:

  1. Mix lime juice and amla powder to make a paste.
  2. Massage it into your scalp and hair.
  3. Use a shower cap to cover your head so that the paste doesn’t dry out.
  4. Keep it for an hour and then rinse it off with normal water.

Coconut Milk

The lauric and capric fatty acids found in coconuts are rich in anti-fungal and antimicrobial properties. These substances prevent obstacles that block the hair growth.

Coconut Milk Ayurveda:

  1. Grate coconut and simmer the grated pieces in a pan for about five minutes.
  2. Strain and cool.
  3. Add one tablespoon each of crushed black pepper and methi to it.
  4. Apply to scalp and hair.
  5. After 30 minutes, rinse with a shampoo.


Since ancient times, neem leaves have been saluted for being a “cure-all” herb. Due to its antimicrobial nature, neem leaves can stimulate hair growth and give a healthy glow to one’s skin.

Neem Ayurveda:

  1. Grind neem leaves into a coarse paste.
  2. Add a little bit of warm water.
  3. Apply on hair.
  4. Wrap your hair in a towel and wait for an hour or so
  5. Shampoo.


Yogurt is a simple ingredient that is more magical than you think. Its loaded with vitamins D and B5 which promote hair growth. 

Plain Yogurt Ayurveda:

  1. Mix 2 tablespoons of yogurt with 1 tablespoon of honey and lemon.
  2. With a brush, apply this on the scalp and hair roots.
  3. Leave it for 30 minutes.
  4. Rinse in normal water
  5. Apply once a week
